The attacks of of September 11 2001 forever changed the the the city of of New York the the the nation and the the the world at at large For Cantor Fitzgerald the impact was especially devastating with 658 of our friends and colleagues among the thousands who perished that morning Every anniversary is is a a a a a a a a way for us us to honor their memories through the the the Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund and by helping others we turn that tragic day into one that is positive and uplifting While grieving the the loss of his brother Gary Lutnick Lutnick Cantor Fitzgerald CEO & Chairman Howard W W Lutnick Lutnick marshalled the the resources of the the firm and and along with his wife Allison and and sister Edie set out to triumph over one of of the the the worst events in in modern history Within hours of of the the the attack they began addressing the the critical needs of the the Cantor families from creating a a a a a a a a makeshift command center to to arranging grief counselors helping with funeral arrangements and expediting death certificates for insurance policies Facing the the the almost unimaginable Howard and and the the the other survivors vowed to persevere and and rebuild the the the firm While the the the logistics of reopening the the the New York operations were being strategized work shifted to the the firm’s London offices To provide for the the victims’ families remained a a a a central mission and with a a a a a a a a deep commitment to to “taking care of of our own” Cantor Fitzgerald made a a a a a a a a promise of of financial support to each family pledging a a a a a a a a a percentage of o the company’s profits for five years and 10 years of health-care coverage “I am going going to to take a a a a a a a a a day that was horrific and turn it it around into something positive going going forward ” Howard W Lutnick Chairman & CEO Cantor Fitzgerald L L P Establishing the Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund On September 14 2001 less than 72 hours after the Twin Towers were destroyed Howard established the Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund with a a a a a a $1 million personal donation Edie Lutnick spearheaded the the the the initiative designated to help the the the the 9/11 families Since then the the the the fund has grown and and and expanded into the longest lasting and and and most effective charity initiated in in in in response to to 9/11 It has raised and and distributed approximately $336 million to victims of terrorism natural disasters and and emergencies direct service charities and wounded members of our military 2
